Pop Culture of the Past

This morning, I got up early and took care of a few chores around the house.  Once the local coffee ship that I frequent opened, I headed over.  I drank my current favorite iced latte and continued my novel.

I’ve often heard the old saying, “Write what you know.”  I think over the last week, that I am starting to understand the saying a little more.

One of the fun parts of what I have been writing is remembering bits and pieces of the past. My story is set in the early 1990s.  I have been thinking about the movies, TV shows, bands, songs, and video games that I enjoyed at the time.

It’s been fun including little references to an episode of Saturday Night Live or a new CD that just hit the shelves, of the local music store.  I think this is part of the reason why the creators of things like Stranger Things and Ready Player One do what they do.  They create a new story, by incorporate things that they loved from the era that is almost a character in the story.

It’s been fun thinking of the 90s and the pop culture that was influencing me then, and in some cases, still influencing me today.

Thanks,
J. Allen Tucker

Writing and Planning

I have continued working on the second Sylas Sterling novel. I’ve written about 2,250 words so far. The first book was nearly 49,000, so I’ve got a ways to go. In addition to starting that book, I’ve been brainstorming. So, I’ve also got some general idea of what I want the third book to be able about. If all goes according to plan, I hope to have a comic book available to tie into the third books release. If you have any feedback, I’d take it into consideration while the next book is in progress. One other note in regards to the first book. I made some additional corrections after the initial publication, so if you come across some punctuation errors I think they have mostly been fixed. Twitter, Word Count and Third Draft

Thanks again to the writing community on Twitter. Yesterday, I hit 250 Twitter followers! Thanks everyone. Today, I wrote 633 words. I finished another chapter in my second novel, and I also made a few small additions to my first novel’s third draft. Thanks, J. Allen Tucker

Title Reveal Coming Soon for Second Novel!

Since 2021, I have slowly been working on the sequel novel to Sylas Sterling and the Lucas County Curse.  Recently, I have been making some progress with the book.  I have also been working on a few others things. I have had the name of the second book for quite some time, but I have not revealed it here or via social yet.  I will be announcing the name soon. I am have an update on the design side of the book.  I created the cover for the first book, and I have finally went through several variations for the cover for the second book.  What I have currently may not be the final version, but it is probably close.  I will be doing a cover reveal, once we are a bit closer to the book publication. At the time, I do not have a date set for the publication of the second novel, but I will be updating that on this website, before I post anything on Twitter (X), Instagram, etc. Leave a comment below, if you have any questions.
